Powerball Parties and Mega Millions Mixers!!!

Powerball Party (P-P)

Would you like to come to my house for a P-P?

I’m going to tell you, I didn’t think anyone would show up to my Powerball Party, but a few friends did!  It was a great run through to work out the kinks.

The concept of the Powerball party is to have fun and perhaps win the Powerball!  It essentially is just a gathering at one’s place or at a public place (bar/club/restaurant, etc) for entertainment and ending with the drawing of the Powerball, the climax event of the evening.

Official Powerball Party Guidelines

The Host

The Host has a lot of responsibility for ensuring a great time up until the drawing.

There are many forms of entertainment the host can go about.

1.  Dinner & a Movie.  This one is quite a bit of work.  The first difficult task is finding a movie you have seen and recommend that no one scheduled to attend the PP.  You then have to create a menu to hand to each of the Players as they walk in.  The Menu will have a a check block next to each item, and the Player will write his/her name and check the blocks of the desired meal choices.  On the menu will be Main Course Options, Drink Options, and Dessert Options.  Start preparing after the movie has started.  Movie should also end a few minutes prior to the drawing.

2.  Game Night.  The host will have board games on deck.  Some personal favorites are Apples to Apples, Cranium, Jenga, and Boggle.  Appetizers and Snacks are much more suited for Game Night.  To make things more interesting, have mystery prizes available for the winners.

3.  Dinner Party.  Unlike Dinner & a Movie, the host will create a dinner menu a couple days prior and distribute to invited Players & their guests.

The Host will keep a Record of those Players who opt into buying into the pool, explained more in the Players section.

The host is not required to buy any Powerball Tickets, but can if s/he so desires.

The Host will also set the required ticket admission.  I will always set the admission to 3-5 tickets, but no Host will ever set the required ticket admission to more than $10.  No one should be made to empty their wallet playing a game that has like a 1:200,000,000 chance of winning!

The Players

The Players are the guests of the host, and will be the ones actually participating in the Powerball Drawing.

The Players will show up with the number of Powerball Tickets requested by the Host.

The Players are allowed to bring one guest, and must let the Host know of the guest.  The guest is also required to bring the announced amount of Powerball tickets.

The Players will also have the option of entering the Powerball Pool.  A dollar in the pool means you are entitled to $9,999.99.  Why?  Because the last time I looked, the Gift Tax was at $10,000, haha.  One can put up to $5 in the pool, with the prizes going up $10,000/$1.  The Powerball Pool money will then go to the host.  This money is mainly there to help  out the Host with the funds for hosting the P-P.  One is only obligated to give money to those who entered the pool only if the big jackpot is hit…anything $1,000,000 or less is the winner’s (and s/he’ll keep it all if s/he is a doucher)

The Non-Participating Players

People who show up unscheduled to P-P’s will be made to sit out of viewing and hearing distance of the P-P, where they will commence in crying for not announcing their arrival or disrespecting the Host by arriving without an invite.

Other Notes

If the Powerball is won, no one is to speak of anyone winning.  One must respect and protect the winner, and you can look at the $9,999.99 as hush money.

If the Powerball is won, the Host must have place for safe keeping if the winner wishes to not leave for safekeeping.  The winner is in all rights to do as s/he wishes with the ticket.

If you’d like to see some photos from the first ever official P-P, visit my Photo Album!  Look how SUPER EXCITED EVERYONE IS TO BE AT A POWERBALL PARTY!!  We had one guy hit one Powerball, and that was it, haha.   $3!

All in all, it’s essentially just a gathering with the climax of Powerball!

Drawings are at 10:59 EST on Wednesdays and Sundays

You can also look at doing the Mega Millions (which I dub “Mega Millions Mixers”).  Those take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.  I imagine the Friday would be nice to get lots of alcohol involved!!

If you do throw one and a great time is had, make sure to let everyone know!!
