Movie Theater Culture
The last few times I have visited the State 1-2-3 Theater in Pierre, SD, I have noticed something that I rather enjoy. Before the trailers, they show ads paid for by local businesses, but they also show a little bit of history in the forms of photos and facts.
They show photographs from around the early 1900's of the local area, and they put up facts like "Deadwood, South Dakota had telephones installed two years before they were installed in Boston." I think it is pretty awesome that they do this, and I think it would be awesome if more theaters around the country did it for their states. It might help revive dying culture and restore some interest in local history or culture. Maybe put some pictures of up some annual events that go on or something.
I know in the bigger cities and the mainstream theaters they are paid the big bucks by advertisers, and some even have little 20 minute pre-movie shows that come on. If you're a nerd like me, though, I need something to watch before that. When I go to the movies by myself, I tend to go a half hour early to make sure I get a good seat, but I always sit in the front row, and those seats are usually always open, so why do I go? Probably subconsciously to get away from the real world, haha.
If I were to go to a theater in Ohio, I think it would be cool just to get a quick little couple photos or facts about Ohio, or likewise with Colorado or Oregon.
I'll be writing to some theaters soon after I move to Vegas...maybe they'll do something! That'd be awesome.
