Are the "Wars" Worth It If We Don't Care Soldiers are Still Dying?
OK, I seriously will quit with these serious thoughts for a while after this one, haha.
As we all know, there are military service members dying in Afghanistan/Iraq frequently. Each is a life that most likely touched someone else's life closely, but is now gone.
Yet, we never see the flags at half mast for them.
A couple days ago, I noticed that all the flags were flying at half mast. The only reason I could foresee was that it was because of the Ft. Hood Shooting, and yesterday, I still saw some flags half way up there.
I understand it sucks for those killed at Ft. Hood, but can't you say it equally sucks for those who die in Iraq or Afghanistan?
Is this how far detached we have become from the "war"? I find it extremely disheartening that now we only really care about those who die on our own soil. Not to even mention how, while there is a "war" going on, 90% of the news coverage is on health care. Isn't war a serious thing? Don't we spend billions trying to fight overseas? Last I checked, war is a pretty serious thing. Tons of resources, money, and lives are put in to war, yet we walk and talk as though it is the weather. We bring it up occasionally in chit chat but do not do anything about.
So is this what America has become? We are so war mongering that it just is part of our daily lives now. There is the small percentage that do care, I know, but obviously those at the Federal level don't. Otherwise, they wouldn't be going on and on about everything else. Last word was that Obama wants everyone out of Iraq by May of 2010. Let's see if that happens, haha, or if he waits until the next election so he can get elected.
