No Credit = Irresponsible?
I am currently trying to figure out how to buy a condo without the help of anyone. I’ve done pretty much everything on my own since high school and don’t feel that I need to start asking for help without at least trying myself first. If you are thinking of doing the same, there is one thing I advise you of…get a flippin’ credit card.
To me, credit cards have always been for those who want to live outside their means. I figured if you didn’t need a credit card, you were a responsible person, as long as you paid everything off in time. Banks don’t care who you are as a person…they just care about your credit, which is a bunch of bull. My case is that I haven’t ever been seriously late with anything, and when I was, I was Recruiting for the Army (ask any recruiter and there is a 99% chance they had some issues while they were in recruiting if they weren’t lying or had a lot of “walk-in” contracts). Even then, I was a little delinquent on cable and cell phone bill payments a couple times, but never late with the rent or utilities. Guess what happens if you don’t make those payments? You don’t have a place to live!!!
I don’t even have a parking ticket in my name. My only bills now are cell phone and car insurance, so I don’t have a lot of other bills. Now that I think about it, there was a time when I was like 3 months late on a cell phone payment, but that phone was under my name but my ex at the time had it, and she said it had been paid off, hahaha.
I can’t even get a VA loan, haha. Lame. From what I understand, I should still be eligible for the low down payment, but apparently even the VA can’t trust the veterans they serve J
Another reason I didn’t get a credit card is all the fees that come with it. If I did have a credit card, all I would have done was pay my cell phone bill with it, and pay off the credit card. It was all I had planned to do with the credit card if I were to get it. I did apply for one right before I got deployed last year, but didn’t follow up with it because I was mad at the world, haha. So what sense does it make to pay more for something I already was paying for?
Ah well. I have come to realize that other people in the world have made it unreasonable for me to live comfortably. With Dictator Obama and his whole “take from the responsible and give to the irresponsible”, that even pushed me more away from getting a credit card. Have you read the “Credit CARD Act”?? (CARD stands for “Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure) I have no idea why the Government thinks it needs to be big brother all the time. It probably is because there are not enough freedom loving people out there anymore. Sure, it sounds nice, but the more we let the federal government control our lives and business, the less we control it. One thing I will highlight with the Act is the fact that they make credit card companies “give card holders a reasonable time to pay the bill – at least 21 calendar days from time of mailing.” Three weeks? That is an insanely reasonable amount of time, and if you ask me, unfair to credit card companies. Is it the credit card company’s fault that people don’t read the contract?
OK, I’m shutting up, or I won’t stop.
